Foursquare has launched its Promoted Updates feature to generate revenue for location based social network. This new feature of foursquare just comes after the launch of local updates last week that enables advertisers to push updates to users who have liked them or checked in on daily basis.
Foursquare promoted updates are performing like Twitter promoted tweets and Google’s promoted listings. Foursquare promoted updates is a great way to find out what’s happening at a local coffee shop, save money on your next clothing purchase, or just discover a store you’ve never been to before.
If you are thinking that you will see lots of advertisement then don’t worry because promoted updates only will show when you open the explore tab. It means when you are going to look something interesting nearby then only the Foursquare promoted updates will appear on the top of the list.
Foursquare’s Chief Revenue Officer Steven Rosenblatt said, “We’re helping users make the most out of where they are, and helping merchants really connect with their most loyal users.”
Foursquare is rolling out this service with local businesses and national brands. Here are some list of partners from first 20 pilot partners – B&B Ristorante, Best Buy, BR Guest Hospitality, JC Penny, Lowe’s, Old Navy, GAP and etc.
